'A life worth living is a life of love.
And anything worth discovering about love will deepen not just one but every one of our relationships.

Love joins us to the deepest parts of ourselves. It allows us to know that our own life has legitimacy, from our own deep world we can reach out to give willingly to other people and receive what they can give to us.'
Stephanie Dowrick.

About Relationship Coaching

Although feeling connected to someone you love can be the most wonderful experience in the world, maintaining a loving and enduring relationship can be quite a challenge in our action filled, multi-tasking lives.

Relationship counselling helps you to understand and improve challenging and difficult relational mechanisms. It will give you tools to soothe painful emotions and overcome old patterns and can help you to create rewarding relationships and a life full of love and joy.

The full depth of our journey together becomes clear only when we come to recognise and acknowledge the inner being of ourselves and each other. When we understand the fears, apprehensions and disappointments of our partner it becomes much easier to find empathy and deep respect for each other, so that growing together becomescan turn into a rewarding spiritual path.

Love needs to be experienced, given and received in the everyday reality of a relationship as well as in the intimate moments of sexual communion. Physical and emotional intimacy requires openness, understanding and empathy. Through learning how to shed our apprehensions of deep intimacy, we are able to experience love touching our whole being in ordinary everyday moments as well as in times of passionate physical communion.

Relationship Coaching is for:

  • couples, who want to keep the freshness of their love alive and want to deepen their connection.
  • couples, who have been together for a long time and want to rekindle the spark between them as well as for couples who are experiencing relationship challenges.
  • people who have decided to go their own separate ways again, helping them to find an amicable closure and completion.
  • single men and women who want to learn how to attract a loving relationship into their lives.
  • people who want support for their relationships with colleagues, family members and friends

Imago Relationship Therapy
The founder of Imago Relationship Therapy is Harville Hendrix, Author of the bestselling book ‘Getting the love you want’. The Imago workshops, books and therapy are now available in over twenty countries. In New Zealand you will find Imago therapists in almost all larger cities.

Imago theory postulates that we are attracted to the perfect ‘Imago match’, a person who possesses some key traits that our caregivers also had. In the dyad of the perfect ‘Imago match’ lies the greatest opportunity for healing and growth.

By deepening our understanding and empathy for our partners, we are able to help each other to overcome old patterns and hurts. The tool that supports this process is the Imago dialogue, a way of communicating that facilitates conscious listening and straight-forward relating, thus deepening understanding and acceptance for each other. This powerful technique creates greater connection and intimacy and can inspire huge transformations in both partners as well as in the relationship itself.

Imago Relationship Therapy supports you to:

  • establish a powerful conscious connection with your partner
  • break those patterns that keep you from moving forward
  • create and maintain sexual, emotional, intellectual and spiritual intimacy
  • work through situations of conflict and disagreement
  • learn advanced techniques for successful and intelligent communication
  • develop greater empathy for your partner, family and friends
  • strengthen your sense of self and boundaries within the relationship.

Relationships with friends and family members:
We always take ourselves, along with our own blessings, skills and shortcomings, into all the relationships in our lives. These may be with our most intimate partners or in longstanding friendships with friends or family members.

The tension between a mother/daughter or a sister/brother can be as strenuous as the problems with our partners and spouses. By taking the courageous step of getting help from an objective professional we can face the problems between us, learn about our own behavioural patterns, move through the issues and, with these newly learned skills, improve and refresh all our relationships.

Professional Mediation:
Mediation in the workplace can be a powerful process between colleagues, employers and employees, staff and customers. Facilitation by an impartial mediator will assist the parties to communicate openly and reach an agreement in the end.

The Imago Dialogue provides the perfect frame work for open and honest communication between the people involved, helping to find a mutually acceptable resolution.

Personal Mediation:
Sometimes we don’t need therapy but simply a third objective person, who can facilitate a negotiation process or a deeper understanding for each other.

Living together in step-and extended families has its own challenges that are often hard to overcome by ourselves. There can be unresolved issues between mother and daughter, father and son, siblings or in-laws.

With the help of an objective mediator it is much easier to give everyone involved a voice and a chance to be heard so that defences can be softened and the knots undone. Then there can be more understanding for each other’s feelings and needs.

Peace can be restored and instead of relationship strain there can be joy and gratitude for the people in our lives.

Individual Counselling
Our biggest opportunities for learning, healing and development occur in times of crisis and challenge. In the midst of such a crisis it isn’t easy to find a way out. With some support we can gain insight and put our lives back in order.

A skilled professional can help us to explore the causes of a crisis, develop the skills to soothe our pain and strengthen our willpower to find clarity for the next steps in our journey. My approach focuses on supporting you to strengthen your inner self, develop your inherent personality and acquire skills to master the challenges of life.

The key aspect of the therapeutic work together is to draw out and understand individual behavioural and relational patterns. Awareness of this brings with it the possibility of change, transformation and eventually integration. For these processes to unfold successfully, I believe it is paramount that we work holistically and include the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual levels of being.

Individual counselling can help you to:

  • heal old wounds
  • deepen your understanding of yourself
  • gain more confidence in your own skills and resources
  • develop new tools to cope better with life’s challenges
  • find new purpose and meaning in your life
